Hello friends and brothers. The last newsletter we sent was in September. In October we didn't send one because we had a trip to the countryside that we hadn't planned, but thank God we were able to go.
Since I had a knee injury, we knew we couldn't go on trips in August and September, so we missed most of them. We thought that this year we were not going to go on any more trips. In the middle of October a trip was going to the province of Bayankhongor, we went there in May of this year. A family that was going to go on this trip had to cancel days before due to health problems. Therefore at the last minute we went instead. This trip had two purposes. The first was to visit the cantons in the education program. Second, for the “Gift of Love” program, in which we give sheep to very poor families.
Many things happened on this trip. First we were on our way to the center of the province, which takes a day driving. The next day we left early to go to the first county. And the car started to fail. We managed to get to the town and work there with the school, but they had to send a spare part of the engine to fix the car.
In another town when we were leaving, a stabilizer bar broke, thank God we had a replacement. The car starter was also failing due to the cold. I had to push the car several times.
It's always nice to go back to places we've visited before and visit people we know in towns and schools. In four towns we visited schools and in 9 different places we distributed sheep.
The trips where we give sheep are always in the fall, last year we went on two of these trips. This trip to Bayankhongor was the only one we were able to go on this year for Gift of Love. The year before on each of these trips we saw 2 or 3 people giving their lives to Christ. Which is a blessing to see just one person receive salvation.
On this trip we saw 17 people pray for their salvation, we never thought we would see something like this. In every town and every place in the countryside after giving the sheep to the families, we took the time to share the gospel. We shared with the people who receive the sheep, the veterinarians, the families, anyone who is present when the event ends.
I think at every event we did, someone prayed for his salvation. At one of the events, everyone prayed for their salvation. This event was in the first county but outside the town. In a place where there are several nomadic families in the area. Three people received the sheep, 5 sheep each. Typically families use one sheep for meat in the winter, and the rest are placed with some nomadic sheep herder in the area to care for and reproduce. In addition to the 3 women who received the sheep, the local veterinarian and her husband were also at the event.
The sheep were mixed with the goats from the veterinarian. After separating them, we held the event where we take their personal information, and explained what the “Gift of Love” program is, and why we do it. Then we shared the gospel with them. This time it was my turn to share the gospel. Many of the people in the countryside in Mongolia do not know much or anything about the Gospel, so we must try to share it in the most complete way. Starting by explaining who the true God is, why he is a God for everyone. Then explain humanity, sin and human nature. And then explain what God's plan is to restore the relationship with humanity that is Jesus Christ. This may take half an hour.
I shared the gospel with them, and what a surprise to ask and pray for salvation. Everyone was praying and repeating after me. The 3 women receiving sheep, the veterinarian and her husband. We are more and more convinced why God brought us to Mongolia. I have heard many times people repeat the phrase and verse that says: "The harvest is ready." I don't know how it is in other countries, but the truth is that in Mongolia it is true.
John 4:35-38
Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. 36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. 38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
The truth is that God has done all the work. After the Soviet Union left Mongolia, the gospel has little by little reached the most remote places, and has given Aemilii and me the privilege of being part and witnesses of the harvest.
That many people are receiving their salvation is a very good problem. For months we have been seeing that it is time to also focus on the discipleship of these people. Help local pastors and leaders so they can effectively disciple these new Christians. We are gathering materials, resources and strategies to help these leaders in the field and guide these new Christians in their walk with Jesus.
One of the best parts of the trip was visiting Ganzorig and his family. Last May we visited him, and we stayed with him for a day. This time we stayed two days and spent time with him and his wife. They are Christians but they live in a very remote area and almost never go out to town or the city. After this we went to the center of the province, and from there we were going to visit a couple more towns and then visit some towns in another province.
Unfortunately Aemilii and I were not able to finish the trip and had to return by bus a few days early. I got sick in my stomach and it didn't get better. We decided to go back to the city and see what was happening with my body. It turned out I had a parasite called giardia. It never hurt or bothered me much. I just had to go to the bathroom constantly and at that rate in the countryside I was going to dehydrate.
As soon as we returned we had to prepare for our next trip. We were invited to go to a conference of some evangelism and discipleship materials from our organization in the Philippines. We were there for 10 days and it was a mix of grabbing ideas and looking at materials to bring to Mongolia. Planning how to adapt them to the Mongolian context. Also the trip was partly a vacation, the truth is that since we arrived in May 2022, we had not taken a real vacation and we needed it.
We hope we can start using these materials to help churches and believers in the countryside grow in their faith, and so that they can reach other people.
In other news my knee is now completely recovered, I think I'm officially going to retire from playing basketball and soccer in Mongolia. But I will continue with volleyball which is a little safer.
Aemilii and I had been planning for our first term in Mongolia to stay for 3 years, before returning to Costa Rica and the United States. But I have to renew my United States visa in 2024. It turns out that the Mongolian embassy does not do that renewal process, so I would have to apply from the beginning. Which is why we have to return to Costa Rica. We will be in Costa Rica from January 13th to April 1st, then to the United States from April to May 9th. And then return to Mongolia to continue our work here. We hadn't planned this yet but at the end of the day it is a blessing from God to be able to return. We hope to see many of you at that time.

Hola amigos y hermanos. El último boletín que mandamos fue en Septiembre. En octubre no mandamos uno porque tuvimos un viaje al campo que no teníamos planeado, pero gracias a Dios pudimos ir.
Como estuve lesionado de la rodilla, sabíamos que no podíamos ir en viajes en Agosto y Septiembre, por lo que nos perdimos la mayoría. Pensamos que este año no íbamos a ir en más viajes. A mitad de Octubre un viaje salía a la provincia de Bayankhongor, ahí fuimos en Mayo de este año. Una familia que iba a ir en ese viaje, días antes tuvieron que cancelar por problemas de salud. Así que de último momento nosotros fuimos en lugar de ellos.
Este viaje tenía dos propósitos. El primero era para visitar los cantones en el programa de educación. Segundo, por el programa de ¨Gift of Love¨ que es en el cual regalamos ovejas a familias muy pobres.
En este viaje pasaron muchas cosas. Primero íbamos de camino al centro de la provincia, eso toma un día manejando. Al día siguiente salimos temprano para ir al primer cantón. Y el carro empezó a fallar. Logramos llegar al pueblo y trabajar ahí con la escuela, pero tuvieron que mandar un repuesto del motor para arreglar el carro.
En otro pueblo cuando íbamos saliendo, se quebró una barra estabilizadora, gracias a Dios teniamos el repuesto. También el arrancador del carro estaba fallando por el frío. Tuve que empujar el carro en varias ocasiones.
Siempre es bonito volver a lugares que hemos visitado antes y visitar personas que conocemos en los pueblos y las escuelas. En cuatro pueblos visitamos las escuelas y en 9 lugares diferentes repartimos ovejas.
Los viajes donde damos ovejas siempre son en otoño, el año pasado fuimos en dos viajes. Este viaje a Bayankhongor, fue al único que pudimos ir este año. El año anterior en cada uno de estos viajes vimos 2 o 3 personas entregando su vida a Cristo. Lo cual es una bendición ver a una sola persona recibir su salvación.
En este viaje vimos a 17 personas orar por su salvación, nunca pensamos que veríamos algo asi. En cada pueblo y cada lugar en el campo después de dar las ovejas a las familias, tomamos el tiempo para compartir el evangelio. Alguno de nosotros comparte con las personas que reciben las ovejas, los veterinarios, las familias, cualquiera que esté presente cuando termina el evento.
Creo que en cada evento que hicimos alguien oró por su salvación. En uno de los eventos, todos oraron por su salvación. Este evento fue en el primer cantón pero fuera del pueblo. En un lugar donde hay varias familias nómadas en el área. Tres personas recibieron las ovejas, 5 ovejas cada una. Normalmente las familias usan una oveja para carne en el invierno, y el resto las ponen con algún pastor de ovejas nómada en el área para que las cuide y se reproduzcan. Además de las 3 mujeres que recibieron las ovejas, también estaba en el evento la veterinaria local y su esposo.
Las ovejas estaban mezcladas con las cabras de la veterinaria, luego de separarlas, hicimos el evento donde tomamos sus datos personales, y explicamos que es el programa de ¨Gift of Love¨ y porqué lo hacemos. Luego compartimos con ellos el evangelio. En esta ocasión era mi turno de compartir el evangelio. Muchas de las personas en el campo en Mongolia no saben mucho o nada del Evangelio, por lo que hay que tratar de compartirlo de la manera más completa. Empezando explicando quien es el verdadero Dios, por que es un Dios para todo el mundo. Luego explicar la humanidad, el pecado y la naturaleza humana. Y luego explicar cual es el plan de Dios para restaurar la relación con la humanidad que es Jesucristo. Esto puede tomar media hora.
Compartí el evangelio con ellos, y que sorpresa al preguntar y hacer una oración por salvación. Todos estaban orando y repitiendo. Las 3 mujeres recibiendo ovejas, la veterinaria y su esposo. Cada vez estamos más convencidos porque Dios nos trajo a Mongolia. He oído muchas veces personas repetir la frase y el versículo que dice: ¨La cosecha está lista¨. No se como será en otros países, pero la verdad es que en Mongolia es cierto.
Juan 4:35-38
¿No dicen ustedes: “Todavía faltan cuatro meses para la cosecha”? Yo les digo: ¡Abran los ojos y miren los campos sembrados! Ya la cosecha está madura; 36 ya mismo el segador recibe su salario y recoge el fruto para vida eterna. Ahora, tanto el sembrador como el segador se alegran juntos. 37 Porque como ciertamente dice el refrán: “Uno es el que siembra y otro el que cosecha”. 38 Yo los he enviado a ustedes a cosechar lo que no les costó ningún trabajo. Otros se han fatigado trabajando y ustedes han cosechado el fruto de ese trabajo.
La verdad es que Dios ha hecho todo el trabajo, luego de que la Unión soviética dejara Mongolia, el evangelio ha ido poco a poco alcanzando los lugares más remotos, y nos ha dado el privilegio a Aemilii y a mi de ser parte y testigos de la cosecha.
Que muchas personas están recibiendo su salvación es un muy buen problema. Por meses hemos estado viendo que es momento de también enfocarnos en el discipulado de estas personas. Ayudar a los pastores y líderes locales para que puedan discipular de una forma efectiva a estos nuevos cristianos. Estamos reuniendo materiales, recursos y estrategias para poder ayudar a estos líderes en el campo y guiar a estos nuevos cristianos en su caminar con Jesus.
Una de las mejores partes del viaje fue visitar a Ganzorig y su familia. En mayo pasado lo visitamos, y estuvimos con él un día. Esta vez nos quedamos dos días y pasamos tiempo con él y su esposa. Ellos son cristianos pero viven en un área muy remota y casi nunca salen al pueblo o a la ciudad.
Después de esto fuimos al centro de la provincia, y desde ahí íbamos a visitar un par de pueblos más y luego visitar unos pueblos de otra provincia.
Lamentablemente Aemilii y yo no pudimos terminar el viaje y nos tuvimos que devolver en bus unos días antes. Yo me enferme del estomago y no mejoraba. Decidimos volver a la ciudad y ver que estaba pasando con mi cuerpo. Resultó que tenía un parásito que se llama Giardia. Nunca me dolió o me molesto mucho. Simplemente tenía que ir al baño constantemente y a ese ritmo en el campo me iba a deshidratar.
Tan pronto volvimos nos teníamos que preparar para nuestro siguiente viaje. Nos invitaron a ir a una conferencia de unos materiales de evangelismo y discipulado de nuestra organización en las Filipinas. Ahí estuvimos 10 días y fue una mezcla de agarrar ideas y materiales para traer a Mongolia. Planear cómo adaptarlos al contexto de Mongolia. Y también el viaje fue en parte vacaciones, la verdad desde que llegamos en Mayo 2022, no habíamos tomado vacaciones y lo necesitábamos.
Esperamos pronto empezar a utilizar este material para ayudar a las iglesias y creyentes del campo a crecer en su fe, y que ellos puedan alcanzar a otras personas.
En otras noticias mi rodilla ya está completamente recuperada, creo que oficialmente me voy a retirar de jugar basketball y fútbol en Mongolia. Pero seguiré con volleyball que es un poco más seguro.
Aemilii y yo esperábamos hace nuestro primer tiempo en Mongolia por 3 años, antes de volver a Costa Rica y Estados Unidos. Pero tengo que renovar mi visa de Estados Unidos en el 2024. Resulta que la embajada de Mongolia no hace ese proceso de renovación, tendría que aplicar desde el inicio. Por lo cual tenemos que volver a Costa Rica. Estaremos en Costa Rica desde el 13 de Enero hasta el 1 de Abril, luego a Estados Unidos de Abril al 9 de Mayo. Para luego volver a Mongolia a seguir nuestro trabajo aquí. No teníamos planeado esto todavía pero al final de cuentas es una bendición de Dios poder volver. Esperamos ver a muchos de ustedes en ese tiempo.
