Before we continue sharing the stories we gathered this summer, we need to tell you about a few things in which we need your prayer and support.
First of all, we want to say thank you to all the people who support us financially. With your help we can stay in Mongolia and be part of what God is doing here. It is true that “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few” and we still have a lot to do. For different reasons, some people have not been able to continue supporting us financially. At this moment, we are looking for people who want to support this ministry in Mongolia. We are looking for $300 monthly support. If you feel that God is calling you to be part of this ministry not only in prayer, but also financially, you can talk to us and you can also click on the “support us” button and make a monthly commitment.
The other thing we want to inform you all about is that next year, my (Daniel’s) American visa expires. We had hoped to be able to do the renewal process at the American embassy here in Mongolia. However, we found out that this isn’t possible. It seems that we will have to return to Costa Rica and the USA for a few months at the beginning of 2024 to be able to complete the process. On one hand, we are happy to be able to see family, our church and you all. But on the other hand, we didn't plan to return yet. Our plan was to return every 3 or 4 years. We have monthly savings to be able to make that trip possible but we are going to have to advance it significantly in order to buy the plane tickets. We ask you for prayer now for the Visa process and for God to provide. And second, again, if you would like to support us you can click on the support us button and make a donation so we can take this trip.
Now, the story. Last month we told you about one part of our summer trip. But we couldn't finish telling you everything that happened on the trip. I had to split it up for two reasons. First, because the newsletter was already very long and second, because the part of the trip that I didn't tell you about is different from the first part.
Last time, left off telling you about the town of Bayantes. From there we continued for a few days to the county of Tes. We were there for the end of summer school, and we were able to see the final presentation by the kinds. We were also able to see the fights at the Nadaam festival.
This was our third time in this town. We have spent quite a bit of time with the small local church. Last year we actually wrote about the pastor and his family. Thanks to the support of some of you, we raised funds for buying a sewing machine for shoes and materials. For many reasons and difficulties, this purchase has not been made since he has not been able to come to the city to buy the machine and take it back. They had a new baby, the wife had complications in her pregnancy and her daughter when she was born. The pastor, Munkhnyam health problems, and they also had problems with the car. This is part of the rural life in Mongolia. Where much of the time you live day to day.
It is always a joy to be able to visit this family, he is like a brother to me. And he is always very grateful when we can meet at his church. Well, we talked to him, and he informed us that he is going to move to the city. A friend offered him to pastor a church on the outskirts of the city. He and his family believe it is the best decision. They've had a couple of very difficult years, plus his oldest daughter started college here in the city. And he is going to have the opportunity to study in the Bible seminary. Now that they are in the city, they still need the machinery to survive, so we hope to go with him to buy the machinery soon.
With the church in Tes we organized a day of discipleship. And we were able to do this in 3 towns. The idea was to have 5 lessons, games, worship, and food during the day. We bought in advance pasta, tomato sauce, cups, drinks, plates and everything we needed to make spaghetti for lunch and have snacks between lessons.
The first lesson was about how the Bible is one story (metanarrative). The second story was about the process of salvation. The third lesson was about how to study the Bible. The fourth lesson was about how to pray and talk to God. Finally, the fifth about how to serve and be part of God's mission. In general, very basic lessons that were designed to strengthen the foundations, or teach these topics to new Christians.
We started at 10 am and finished around 6 pm. I gave the 5 lessons so I ended up exhausted. Meanwhile Aemilii helped me to distribute materials, to make lunch and to prepare the snacks. Additionally, she was in charge of worship, whether she was singing or playing music in the background. In each of the towns where we did the workshop, we only asked each church to get water and meat to prepare everything. We had been planning this workshop for almost a year together with Mugii, the coordinator of this province. Something we wanted to do to finish the workshop as part of the last lesson was to wash people's feet, just like Jesus did. We honestly didn't know how this part was going to turn out and I was a little nervous about how they were going to take it, but at the end of the day we had some confidence with them. The truth is, it was incredible! It was a very special moment with Munkhnyam, his family and his church.
After finishing in Tes we went to Numrug for a couple of days. This town is also part of the summer school program, but we couldn't go because we didn't have time. We went to a place on the outskirts of town near a lake with all the summer teachers of the province. In total 16 teachers. There we celebrated the end of the summer program, we shared time together praying and thanking God. And then they all took the bus back to the city.
The 4 of us (Aemilii, Mugii, Mugii the driver and I) still had to go to two more counties. Thank goodness before this trip we had bought a slightly larger tent. We used it a lot on this trip. In total we camped 10 nights out of 42. In the last days of the trip was when we camped the most.
After camping in front of a beautiful lake. We went to the next town, Yaruu. We had been to this town once before. The veterinarian of this town and his wife are Christians. They are very special and we always stay with them. They have their gers outside the town where they keep their animals. Last fall we had church at Gongaa’s house on Sunday, since the pastor of the town Baljaa was not there. Yaruu is a very remote town in the mountains and the road is always hard, but it is a very nice place. We stayed again with Gongaa for a day and the next day we had the discipleship workshop. I thought I didn't know the pastor, but I did! At first I didn't recognize him, but then he took out his camera and that's when I remembered. Last year in Tes I met a Christian man. And I taught him how to use his camera. Well this was Baljaa the pastor of Yaruu.
Just like in Tes, we had one discipleship day. When I was writing the lessons I always thought they were very basic. The second lesson was about the salvation process. Explain how God first chooses us, calls us, we repent, and believe. God justifies us, the Holy Spirit comes to us and God adopts us. When I finished the lesson and asked if anyone had questions, Baljaa raised his hand. He asked : So, if God adopts us, that means it is forever?
I was surprised, I thought maybe I hadn't understood the question. But yes, that was his question. I patiently explained and gave him examples. At that moment I understood many things about our work in Mongolia. I understood that we still have a lot to do and in many communities in the countryside we have to start from scratch with the churches. There are leaders and pastors who have every desire and desire to lead people to Christ, but they need someone to explain the Biblical bases to them. I understood that there is a lot of work we have to do for the discipleship of Mongolia. At the end of the day we finished the workshop, for lunch Aemilii made spaghetti again but for dinner Gongaa prepared sheep's head for us. Which is an honor in Mongolia. The next day we left for the last town of our trip.
We arrived at Ikh-Uul. Here Aemilii and we didn't know the church. We only knew the wife of the church pastor. Last year we just went quickly and the pastor was not there because he had an accident and was in a hospital in another town. In this town we were hesitant to wash the feet of the people in the church because we didn't know them. And our experience of Tes and Yaruu was that it is a very intimate and emotional moment. God heard us, I think He thought the same. The day we were going to do the workshop was also the last day of the Nadaam celebrations. The people from the church told us that they couldn't stay all day because they had to leave in the afternoon. Also that day we didn't want to finish too late because we had to start the trip back to the city that takes 2 days.
The day we arrived we saw the horse races. The next day we did the workshop but a shorter version, we only did 3 lessons. Aemilii didn't make lunch but the church people made Horhog which is my favorite Mongolian food. Then we gave the family all the extra food we had for the workshops and the trip in general.
It was a very nice time. The pastor and his family are young, they are farmers. They have 3 children and one of them has special needs. They have gone through many difficulties, but they remain faithful to their work in the church.
On this trip in total we met with 5 churches. With each one we had the opportunity to share lessons, teachings, music, with children, encourage the leaders, and meet the church members. Every time we or someone visits these churches and brings Bibles, materials, teachings and time. It is fuel for these churches, it is filling their tank so that they continue forward despite the difficult conditions, despite the fact that very few people are believers in their community, suffering rejection and discouragement. This is the work Jesus called us to do.
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
In other news, a few weeks ago our ABWE regional directors visited us. Having them here was a great encouragement for us and we were able to discuss our plans and ideas for our ministry. We want to bring material to the countryside churches. We want to bring discipleship material and material about how to form healthy churches. We managed to connect with people in the 9Marks ministry and Desiring God, so that we can start adapting and translating material. We also have the chance to go to a discipleship summit in the Philippines in November and God provided for that trip in a miraculous way. We are also working on creating a network with Christian leaders in the field that will benefit them, as well as our organization. But next month I'll tell you more. This project has the potential to unite the church in Mongolia.
In other news, my knee is improving very well and I hope to start therapy soon. The Mongolian classes are also going very well, I feel like we are learning the language quickly. When we see you next year we will speak to you in Mongolian.

Antes de empezar con la historia hay un par de temas que ocupamos su oración y su apoyo.
En primer lugar queremos darles gracias a todas las personas que nos apoyan económicamente. Gracias a esto podemos mantenernos en Mongolia y ser parte de lo que Dios está haciendo aquí. Es cierto que “la mies es mucha pero pocos los obreros” y todavía tenemos mucho por hacer. Por diferentes motivos algunas personas no han podido seguir apoyándonos económicamente. Y en este momento estamos buscando personas nuevas que quieran apoyar la misión en Mongolia. Estamos buscando $300 de apoyo mensual, para poder seguir haciendo el trabajo que hacemos. Si sienten que Dios los está llamando a ser parte de este ministerio no solo en oración, sino también económicamente, pueden hablar con nosotros y también pueden dar click en el botón de apoyarnos y hacer un apoyo mensual por el monto que puedan de acuerdo a sus finanzas.
En segundo lugar. El próximo año, a mi (Daniel) se me vence la visa americana. Esperábamos poder hacer el trámite de renovación en la embajada americana en Mongolia. Pero averiguamos y no se puede. Así que parece que tendremos que volver a Costa Rica y USA a principios del 2024 para poder hacer el trámite. Por un lado, estamos felices de poder ver a la familia, a nuestra iglesia y a la mayoría de ustedes. Pero por otro lado, todavía no teníamos planeado ir. Nuestro plan era ir cada 3 o 4 años. Tenemos un ahorro mensual para poder hacer ese viaje pero cómo lo vamos a tener que adelantar significativamente, ahorita no contamos con ese ahorro completo. Les pedimos primero por oración desde ya para el proceso de la Visa y para que Dios provea. Y segundo, de nuevo, si les gustaría apoyarnos pueden hacer click en el botón de apoyarnos y hacer una donación para que podamos hacer este viaje.
Ahora sí, la historia. El mes pasado les contamos parte de nuestro viaje en el verano. Pero no pudimos terminar de contarles todo lo que pasó en el viaje. Tuve que cortarlo por dos razones. Primero porque el boletín ya estaba muy largo y segundo, porque la parte del viaje que no conté es muy diferente.
Quedamos en el pueblo de Bayantes. De ahí seguimos unos días al cantón de Tes. Ahí estuvimos para el final de la escuela de verano, y pudimos ver la presentación final. También pudimos ver las luchas en el festival de Naadam
Esta era nuestra tercera vez en este pueblo. Hemos pasado bastante tiempo con la pequeña iglesia local. El año pasado de hecho escribimos acerca del pastor y su familia. Gracias al apoyo de algunos de ustedes recaudamos fondos para poder comprar una máquina de coser para zapatos y materiales. Por muchos motivos y dificultades no se ha podido realizar esta compra ya que él no ha podido venir a la ciudad a comprar la máquina y llevarla. Ellos tuvieron una nueva hija, la esposa tuvo complicaciones en el embarazo y la hija cuando nació. El pastor, Munkhnyam tuvo problemas de salud, y también tuvieron problemas con el carro. Esto es parte de la vida en el campo en Mongolia. Donde mucha parte del tiempo se vive el día a día.
Siempre es una alegría poder visitar a esta familia, él es como un hermano para mi. Siempre es muy agradecido cuando nos podemos reunir en su iglesia. Pues hablamos con él, y nos informó que se va a mudar a la ciudad. Un amigo le ofreció pastorear una iglesia en las afueras de la ciudad. Él y su familia creen que es la mejor decisión. Han tenido un par de años muy difíciles, además su hija mayor empezó la universidad aquí en la ciudad. El va a tener la oportunidad de estudiar en el seminario Bíblico. Ahora que están en la ciudad igual ocupan la maquinaria para subsistir, así que esperamos pronto ir con él a comprar la maquinaria.
Volviendo al pueblo de Tes. Con la iglesia organizamos hacer un dia de discipulado. Y esto lo pudimos hacer en 3 pueblos más. La idea era tener 5 lecciones, juegos, alabanza y comida durante el día. Compramos de antemano pasta, salsa de tomate, vasos, frescos, platos y todo lo necesario para hacer spaghetti al almuerzo y tener refrigerios entre las lecciones.
La primera lección era acerca de cómo la Biblia es una sola historia (metanarrativa). La segunda era acerca del proceso de la salvación. La tercera lección era acerca de cómo estudiar la Biblia. La cuarta acerca de cómo orar y hablar con Dios. Finalmente, la quinta acerca de cómo servir y ser parte de la misión de Dios. En general, lecciones muy básicas que estaban pensadas a fortalecer las bases, o enseñar de estos temas a cristianos nuevos.
Tes fue nuestro primer lugar. Empezamos a las 10 am y terminamos por ahí de las 6 pm. Yo di las 5 lecciones por lo que terminé agotado. Aemilii mientras me ayudaba a repartir materiales y ella hizo el almuerzo y preparó los refrigerios. Además se encargó de la alabanza, ya fuera ella cantando o poniendo música de fondo. En cada pueblo que hicimos este taller, lo único que pedimos a cada iglesia es que nos ayudaran con agua y carne para preparar todo. Este taller lo veníamos planeando hace casi un año junto con Mugii, la coordinadora de esta provincia. Algo que queríamos hacer para terminar y la última lección era lavar los pies de las personas, tal como lo hizo Jesús. Honestamente no sabíamos cómo iba a resultar esta parte y yo estaba un poco nervioso de cómo lo iban a tomar, pero al final de cuentas ya los conocíamos. La verdad, fue increíble! Fue un momento muy especial con Munkhnyam, su familia y su iglesia.
Luego de terminar en Tes fuimos un par de días a Numrug. Este pueblo también es parte del programa de la escuela de verano, pero no pudimos ir porque no nos alcanzó el tiempo. Fuimos a un lugar en las afueras del pueblo cerca de un lago con todas las maestras de verano de la provincia. En total 16 maestros. Ahí celebramos el final del programa, compartimos tiempo juntos orando y agradeciendo a Dios. Y luego todos ellos tomaron el bus de vuelta a la ciudad.
Nosotros 4 (Aemilii, Mugii, Mugii el chofer y yo) todavía teníamos que ir a dos pueblos más. Gracias a Dios antes de este viaje habíamos comprado una tienda de campaña un poco más grande. En este viaje la usamos mucho. En total acampamos 10 noches de 42. En estos últimos días del viaje fue cuando acampamos más.
Luego de acampar frente a un lago lindísimo. Fuimos al siguiente pueblo Yaruu. En este pueblo, habíamos estado una vez antes. El veterinario de este pueblo y su esposa son cristianos. Ellos son muy especiales y siempre nos quedamos con ellos. Tienen sus gers fuera del pueblo donde tienen sus animales. El otoño pasado visitamos este pueblo y a Gongaa el veterinario. Tuvimos la iglesia el domingo en su casa, ya que el pastor del pueblo Baljaa no estaba. Yaruu es un pueblo muy remoto en las montañas y el camino siempre es duro, pero es un lugar muy lindo. Nos quedamos un día con Gongaa y al día siguiente hicimos el taller de discipulado. Yo pensaba que no conocía al pastor, pero si lo conocía! Al principio no lo reconocí, pero luego sacó su cámara y ahí me acordé. El año pasado en Tes había conocido a un hombre cristiano. Y le enseñé a usar su cámara fotográfica. Pues este era Baljaa el pastor de Yaruu.
Igual que en Tes, tuvimos el día de discipulado. Cuando hice las lecciones siempre pensé que eran muy básicas. La segunda lección era acerca del proceso de salvación. Explique cómo Dios primero nos elige, nos llama, nos arrepentimos y creemos. Dios nos Justifica, el Espíritu Santo entra en nosotros y Dios también nos adopta. Cuando terminé la lección y pregunté si alguien tenía preguntas, Baljaa alzó su mano. Me pregunto: Entonces si Dios nos adopta, quiere decir que es para siempre?
Yo me quedé sorprendido, pensé que tal vez no había entendido la pregunta. Pero si, esa era su pregunta. Con paciencia le expliqué y le di ejemplos. En ese momento entendí muchísimas cosas de nuestro trabajo en Mongolia. Entendí que nos falta mucho por hacer y en muchas comunidades en el campo hay que empezar de cero con las iglesias. Hay líderes y pastores que tienen todo el deseo y ganas de liderar personas a Cristo, pero necesitan que alguien les explique las bases Bíblicas. Entendí que es mucho el trabajo que tenemos que hacer para el discipulado de Mongolia. Al final del día terminamos el taller, de almuerzo Aemilii hizo spaghetti de nuevo pero para la cena Gongaa preparó cabeza de oveja para nosotros. Que es un honor en Mongolia. Al día siguiente salimos para el último pueblo de nuestro viaje.
Llegamos a Ikh-Uul. Aqui Aemilii y y no conocíamos la iglesia. Solo conocíamos a la esposa del pastor de la iglesia. El año pasado solo fuimos rápidamente y el pastor no estaba porque había tenido un accidente y estaba en un hospital en otro pueblo. En este pueblo teníamos dudas de lavar los pies de las personas de la iglesia porque no los conocíamos. Nuestra experiencia de Tes y Yaruu fue que es un momento muy íntimo y emocional. Dios nos oyó, creo que pensó lo mismo. El día que íbamos a hacer el taller también era el último día de las celebraciones de Nadaam. Las personas de la iglesia nos dijeron que no podían estar todo el día porque en la tarde se tenían que ir. También ese día no queríamos terminar muy tarde porque teníamos que empezar el viaje de vuelta a la ciudad que toma 2 días.
El día que llegamos vimos las carreras de caballos. Al día siguiente hicimos el taller pero una versión más corta. Solo hicimos 3 lecciones. Aemilii no hizo almuerzo sino que la iglesia preparó Horhog que es mi comida favorita de Mongolia. Entonces les regalamos a la familia toda la comida que teníamos extra para los talleres y del viaje en general.
Fue un tiempo muy lindo. El pastor y su familia son jóvenes, y se dedican a la agricultura. Tienen 3 hijos y una de ellas tiene condiciones especiales. Ellos han pasado por muchísimas dificultades, pero siguen siendo fieles a su trabajo en la iglesia.
En este viaje en total nos reunimos con 5 iglesias. Con cada una tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir lecciones, enseñanzas, música, con niños, animar a los líderes, conocer a los miembros. Cada vez que nosotros o alguien visita estas iglesias y trae Biblias, material, enseñanzas y tiempo. Es gasolina para estas iglesias, es llenarles el tanque para que sigan adelante a pesar de las condiciones difíciles, de que muy pocas personas creen en su comunidad, de rechazo y de desaliento. Este es el trabajo que Jesus nos llamó a hacer.
Mateo 28:19-20
19 Por tanto, vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, 20 enseñándoles a obedecer todo lo que les he mandado a ustedes. Y les aseguro que estaré con ustedes siempre, hasta el fin del mundo.
En otras noticias, hace unas semanas nos visitaron nuestros líderes regionales de ABWE. Tenerlos aquí fue de gran aliento para nosotros y pudimos conversar de nuestros planes e ideas. Ahorita queremos traer material al campo para las iglesias. Material de discipulado y de cómo formar iglesias sólidas. Logramos conectar con personas en el ministerio 9Marks y Desiring God, para poder empezar a adaptar y traducir material. También nos salió una posibilidad de ir a una cumbre de material de discipulado en las Filipinas en Noviembre y Dios proveyó para ese viaje de una manera milagrosa. También estamos trabajando en crear una red con los líderes cristianos en el campo que los va a beneficiar tanto a ellos como a nosotros. Pero el próximo mes les cuento más. Este proyecto tiene el potencial de unir la iglesia en Mongolia.
En otras noticias mi rodilla va mejorando muy bien y pronto espero empezar terapia. También las clases de Mongol van muy bien, siento que estamos aprendiendo rápido el idioma. Cuando los veamos el próximo año les hablaremos en mongol.
