Let His Kingdom Come/ Que venga su reino

Las últimas semanas yo, Aemilii, he estado estudiando el libro de Juan. Mi intención original era enseñar a través de devocionales y, por supuesto, aprendí mucho más de lo que enseñé. Me encontré demorando en cómo dar testimonio de la deidad de Jesús y cómo tenemos vida en Él. En el primer capítulo de este evangelio, Juan el bautista ofrece un inmenso ejemplo de humildad. Una y otra vez señala a los líderes judíos a Jesús en lugar de su propia fama personal. Oh, cómo rezo por tanta humildad. Es extraño estar en un lugar de honor como un misionero en medio del pecado en mi. Me encuentro deseando el reconocimiento pero el autor de Juan es muy claro y nos da un ejemplo de cómo vivir. Dice en Juan 20: 30-31 que el propósito es que el lector crea que Jesús es el Mesías, el hijo de Dios, y que podamos tener vida en Jesús. Qué maravillosa razón para escribir un libro. Dani y yo deseamos dedicar nuestras vidas y ministerio a tal causa.

¿Qué significa creer en Jesús y tener vida en Jesús? El apóstol Juan escribe sobre varios relatos, pero algo que encuentro interesante es cuando registra el relato del primer milagro de Jesús en una pequeña boda en Caná. Durante la boda, ¡Jesús sorprendentemente convierte el agua en vino! A mí me parece un milagro sorprendente con el que comenzar su ministerio. Tendría sentido que Jesús comenzara por curar a un ciego o resucitar a alguien de entre los muertos, pero no, Él convierte el agua en vino. No solo eso, sino que también elige revelar este milagro a los observadores inesperados. No reyes ni nobles, sino sirvientes. Entonces, debe haber una razón por la cual Jesús elige una sustancia tan común como el vino para comenzar su viaje.

A lo largo de las Escrituras, el vino es un símbolo de la gracia y el gozo de Dios. Esto nos llama a mantener nuestra mirada en la promesa de la eternidad con Dios. Creo que una de las razones por las que Jesús hace milagros es para hablarnos de que Jesús restaurará el mundo a la forma en que deberían ser las cosas. Por ejemplo, Jesús sana a los enfermos, alimenta a los hambrientos, resucita a los muertos y puede dar alegría en todas las circunstancias. Está trayendo el reino de Dios a la tierra.

Que seamos un pueblo que traiga Su reino, alimente a los pobres, sane a los heridos, proteja a los niños, cuide a las viudas y comparta la gran noticia de Nuestro Salvador.

Let His Kingdom Come

The past few weeks I, Aemilii, have been studying the book of John. My original intent was to teach through devotionals and of course I learned way more than I taught. I found myself lingering on how to give testimony of Jesus’ deity and how we have life in Him. In the first chapter of this gospel, John the baptist provides an immense example of humility. Over and over again he points the Jewish leaders to Jesus instead of his own personal fame. Oh how I pray for such humility. It’s strange to be put in a place of honor as a missionary while in the midst of being totally sinful. I find myself wanting the recognition but the author of John is very clear and gives us an example of how to live. He says in John 20:30-31 that the purpose is that the reader may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God, and that we may have life in Jesus. What a marvelous reason to write a book. Dani and I desire to dedicate our lives and ministry to such a cause.

What does it mean to believe in Jesus and have life in Jesus? The apostle John writes about various accounts but something I find interesting is when he records the account of Jesus’ first miracle in a small wedding in Cana. During the wedding, Jesus amazingly turns water into wine! To me it seems like a surprising miracle with which to begin His ministry. It would make sense for Jesus to start by maybe healing a blind man or raising someone from the dead but no, He turns water into wine. Not only that but He also chooses to reveal this miracle to unexpecting observers. Not kings or noblemen but the servants. So, there must be a reason for why Jesus chooses such an ordinary substance as wine to start His journey.

Throughout scripture wine is a symbol of God’s grace and joy. This calls us to keep our gaze on the promise of eternity with God. I believe one reason why Jesus does miracles is to speak to us that Jesus will restore the world to the way things ought to be. For example, Jesus heals the sick, feeds the hungry, raises people from the dead and can give joy through all circumstances. He is bringing God’s kingdom to earth.

May we be a people who bring His kingdom, feed the poor, heal the hurting, protect the children, take care of the widows and share the great news of Our Savior.
