Hello friends and brothers and sisters. In this newsletter, we want to tell you about what has happened in the last two months. The most important thing was summer school.

Summer school is our favorite part of the year; it requires a lot of preparation and organization. We have to find summer teachers for the 28 counties where we run the school, prepare books, materials, routes, food, etc.

For Aemilii and me every year we decide which provinces we'll go to and how we'll help the teams. This year, we decided to go first to Zavkhan province, the most Buddhist province, and for several reasons, also the province we love the most. It was the first province we visited, and although there are very few Christians and many counties without churches or Christians, the churches that are there seem very solid to us and are led by very healthy families with a heart for service. The other province was Khuvsgul, the most shamanistic province in Mongolia. We went to this province with Aemilii's parents so they could see what we do in Mongolia.

I'm going to tell you about our summer trip backwards. Because, I want to focus on a story that happened in the first part. Khuvsgul is also the most beautiful province in Mongolia. This year, summer school is in some counties in the north, very close to Russia. We hadn't been to three of the four counties before, and they're very remote. First, we went to Alag-Erdene. We stayed there for a couple of days. Aemilii gave classes with her mother and Azka while I took Aemilii's father to see Lake Khuvsgul and the town of Khatgal, where we met other missionaries and visited several other places.

Then we set off for the Darkhad Valley. This is a very large valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The valley has one entrance and one exit. To get to the first town, we had to drive for five hours and cross rivers 19 times. At one point, the road disappeared, and we saw another car driving upstream. For 200 meters, the river was the road. We finally arrived in Ulaan Uul (Red Mountain), a spectacular place. We stayed overnight in the school dormitory and participated in the Naadam celebration in the town. It was a very rainy and humid day, so it seemed like a modest celebration compared to other Naadams we've seen. The following week, we attended classes on Monday and Tuesday and visited a man in town with the summer teachers. This man used to be a herder and now lives in the village. Our language skills are finally at a point where we can act as basic translators for Aemilii's parents.

The next day, we set off for the next county in the valley, Renchinlumbe. Again, the roads were quite bad. Although this time it was partly our fault. If there's one piece of advice I can give to anyone coming to Mongolia to drive, it's: Never trust Google Maps. And that was our mistake—it took us five hours to drive 60 kilometers. It turns out that the route marked on Google Maps is only used in the winter when the rivers are frozen. The normal, better, and commonly used route wasn't even close or marked on the map. At one point, I had to take out the drone before crossing a river to see what was on the other side, to see if it was worth risking crossing.

When we arrived in Renchinlumbe, the Nadam festival had just ended, and they were about to have another celebration: the school's 100th anniversary. So the village was celebrating for two weeks. During our time there, we couldn't attend classes, but we were able to visit a family.

We couldn't visit the last county; we ran out of time, and there was no room in the dormitory at that school.

We left the valley and rested for a few days, camping by the lake. One day, a mute man arrived at our campsite and showed us photos. It was clear he wanted money and was going from campsite to campsite. We gave him money, but we also gave him a glimpse into the gospel. Better than any amount of money.

After several days, we returned to the house, and to this day, Aemilii's parents are still here with us.

Now, let's go back to the beginning… Our trip to Zavkhan. We left in mid-June, for just two weeks. It was our first trip with Azka that long and we didn't know how it was going to go… After the whole summer, we can say that Azka is a champion. Hours and hours in the car, sleeping in different places, eating different meals, and he never complained. Only two days at the end of the trip to Zavkhan, when the air conditioning broke down, he was a little annoyed.

On the first day of the trip, we had a couple of problems, but God provided. The car carrying all the materials and the teachers broke down; they had left two hours before us. A brake bolt came loose. When we arrived, the driver sarcastically asked me if I had that bolt. Well, it turns out I did! A week before leaving, I had bought that size bolt because a week before that, I had broken a bolt, and it occurred to me that I should have extra ones.

Thirty minutes before we arrived at the other car, I started hearing a noise in my car that I didn't like, and when we put the bolt in the other car, I checked and more or less found the problem with my car. We returned to the previous town, which was 10 kilometers away, where we already had a hotel booked. Someone helped me find a mechanic. The next day, we got it fixed after searching the whole town for the part, and then we continued on our way.

In Zavkhan, our plan was to visit three towns with the summer school and an extra village at the end. We camped the second night, still on the road, and finally arrived at the first two towns. Zavkhan is the province we know best, and many of the summer teachers from Zavkhan are the ones who come to our Bible study, so we know them very well.

The three towns we visited were Songino, Tsetsen Uul, and Santmargats. None of the three have churches, except for one Christian church in Tsetsen Uul. We also had preschool classes in the latter two. In Songino and Tsetsen Uul, we stayed in the dormitory, and in Santmargats, we had to camp. Every place is different in the summer, and we have to be prepared to sleep in different places and conditions. Even though it takes longer to set up, the tent is our safe space when we feel the conditions aren't good.

As I mentioned before, Zavkhan is a very Buddhist province. We know all the churches in the province, almost all the counties, and there are some counties that feel very dark; Tsetsen Uul is one of them. It's a small village, but with a disproportionately large Buddhist monastery. And the spiritual darkness is palpable in the village and among the people.

In all three counties, Aemilii taught classes, and we spent time with the teachers. In Sant, we spent quite a bit of time at the preschool, and Azka enjoyed it a lot, especially with her friend Togton. He's the son of one of the summer teachers, who's from Zavkhan, but he came to our house once for Bible study. Like Azka, Togton is also obsessed with cars.

Now, the story I wanted to tell you… After visiting the three counties, we went with Naska, the coordinator for this province since last year, and a short-term missionary to the Bayantes county. Bayantes was part of the summer school program three years ago. Aemilii and I visited Bayantes in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, there wasn't a church in Bayantes. In 2023, a young family from the city moved there as missionaries. In 2023, together with us and the summer teachers, we held the first service and did an activity with the children. Fifty children came that time.

It's been easy to stay in touch with them because they speak a little English. So, with our basic Mongolian and their basic English, we manage to understand each other. They've done an amazing job supporting the church, and since they're from the city, we sometimes see them when they come to visit. They're also a bit younger than us and enjoy board games.

We planned to visit them this summer and do an activity with the children and participate in the church. Naska, the provincial coordinator, led an activity for the older children: a workshop on making smart decisions in adolescence. Aemilii led an activity with the younger children. We also played games, sang songs, and had snacks with them. This activity was focused on the children who have been attending church for the past three years.

Of the 50 children who came to that first activity three years ago, about 20 still attend regularly. About 15 came to this activity, as some were in other places. We recognized several of them, and they recognized us, even though they're older now.

On Sunday we went to church. Aemilii led the worship and I gave the sermon. Honestly, we didn't know how many people attended. Three years ago, when it started, there was no one from the town; the number of people was zero. To our surprise, the church now has 15 adults and 20 children. Only God could do something like that!

We spent time together after church and saw how committed and happy they are to having received Christ and being part of the church. We met a woman, Erdene Tsetseg. She had been a shaman for 14 years. One day, Dashka gave her a ride back from the city. During those 12 hours of travel, the woman had no escape and had to hear the gospel.

After that, she kept thinking about it but didn't go to church. One day she had a dream of a city in the sky. So she decided to go to church. That day, Dashka showed a picture from a book, and it was the same picture Erdene Tsetseg had seen. From then on, she decided to give her life to Jesus. Now she has become one of the most regular attendees at the church and Dashka and Nomin's right-hand woman. She went from worshipping the sky to seeing the sky, and now one day she will go to heaven.

After the service, we returned to the city, leaving Bayantes, one of our favorite places in Mongolia. We hope to return soon to this town where God is doing wonderful things.

Gas shortages are a problem again in Mongolia right now. God protected us during the trip; we never had any problems, but other teams and people did.

As of today, when I'm writing this bulletin, Aemilii's family is still almost there and will be leaving in a few days. Also, as I write this, we ask for your prayers for Azka and the entire situation. Azka's father remains unstable and unsure. Today, we met with him and his daughters for the first time. We agreed that Azka's sisters can see him once every two or three months. We visited where they live, and for many reasons, it's not good for Azka to be there. We are grateful that things seem to have calmed down, but overall, the situation remains stressful. For Aemilii and me, Azka's future is the most important thing. We need God to do a miracle, one way or another.

Jeremiah29:11-13

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Hola amigos y hermanos.

Nuestro viaje a Zavkhan.
